Dr. Art DeGroat serves as the Mid-America Arts Alliance Military and Veterans Affairs Senior Advisor for Creative Forces®: National Endowment for the Arts’ Military Healing Arts Network Community Engagement Grants Program. He is the founder and executive director of Kansas State University’s Office of Military & Veterans Affairs, and the Military Affairs Innovation Center in Manhattan, Kansas. He is recognized as a national expert in the social sciences in Post 9-11 era military veterans transition and reintegration where he works actively with students, veterans, businesses, communities, non-profit veteran service organizations and government agencies. For the past 7 years he has worked with pioneering creative arts projects in LA and NYC— as well as the Midwest with the arts in service to veterans. He was recently appointed to the Kansas Governor’s Military Council and Governor’s Challenge Work Group for the Prevention of Veteran Suicide in addition to his position as chairman of the advisory board of USO Kansas. He is a combat decorated veteran and former career Army officer. He holds a Baccalaureate degree in Political Science- Public Policy, Masters degrees in Military Arts & Science and Adult Learning & Leadership, and a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership- Military Adult Development emphasis.
