Geffen Playhouse's Veterans Writing & Performance Project is an initiative that provides an opportunity for military veterans of all ages, branches, and backgrounds in Los Angeles, California, to create original, personal monologues and share their work in a public performance. Veterans can access quality learning with theater arts professionals, writers, and teaching artists through this workshop. They also develop a sense of reintegration with the community as they educate audiences about their experiences. The project aims to address the need for connection, artistic expression, and community, allowing participants to build strength, resiliency, support, self-expression, and fellowship. Veterans from diverse cultural backgrounds and different generations are selected to create a well-rounded artistic veterans' community. This project provides a highly impactful theater-making experience that supports participants' reintegration with the community and helps them process trauma.
